Do you often find yourself getting overwhelmed by your schedule? To-do list, work schedule, house chores, school, kids, career,– all these and more coupled with a few scrolls on social media compete for our attention, putting health and wellness the least of our priorities, making it harder to stay balanced and aligned with nature’s rhythms.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, adhering to Dinacharya (an ideal daily routine) helps us synchronize with the natural cycles of each day. Here’s how an Ayurvedic daily regimen can help you feel more balanced and energized throughout the day.

1) Wake up at Brahma Muhurta

To prioritize your mental and spiritual well-being, it's recommended to wake up at brahma muhurta, which is 1 hour and 36 minutes before sunrise. This time is considered very powerful because it is when our concentration and awareness are at their highest. Starting your day at this time is an excellent way to maximize your productivity and focus throughout the day.

2) Cleanse

According to Ayurveda, a healthy digestion system is indicated by the urge for a bowel movement as soon as you wake up. If you are dealing with constipation, it is recommended to include a glass of warm water in your early morning routine and consume plenty of fiber in your diet. Triphala can also support your digestion and elimination.

3) Use your Tongue Cleaner

Over time, toxins can accumulate in our bodies and leave a layer on our tongues. To eliminate this buildup as well as any other residues, it is best to use a tongue scraper made of metals such as gold, silver, or copper. This practice can help to eliminate bad breath and maintain optimal oral hygiene.

4) Brush your Teeth

Ayurveda suggests using natural ingredients like ayurvedic tooth powders. You can use this with a soft bristle toothbrush.

5) Do some Oil Pulling

Have you heard of oil pulling? It's a technique where you swish a small amount of oil around your mouth to improve oral health. Sesame, sunflower or coconut oil are both great options for this practice as they are effective in removing bacteria and promoting healthy gums. Give it a try and see the difference it can make for your dental health.

6) Practice Nasya Therapy using Anu Tailam

Nasya therapy is an easy practice that supports nasal health and promotes clearer breathing. Its calming effect helps you start your day feeling refreshed and revitalized.

7) Exercise for at least Half an Hour

It is crucial to engage in daily exercise for at least half an hour in order to enhance strength and mobility. Incorporating yoga into your routine can also boost your body's flexibility and promote self-awareness. According to Ayurveda, it is essential to exercise only up to half of your capacity and avoid overexertion.

8) Spend some Time for Abhyanga (Self-Massage)

Abhyanga is the practice of massaging the body with oils like sesame oil or any Ayurvedic herbal oils that match your needs (Mahanarayan, Baby Balance, Vata, Pitta, Kapha Oil). This practice improves skin health, calms the body, enhances muscular strength and sleep quality. It is recommended to heat the oil slightly before use.

9) Enjoy a relaxing Snana (Bath)

The last practice of the morning routine is snana or bath. Bathing cleanses our body , improves digestion and relaxes the mind and body. Avoid extremely hot or cold showers and also do not use hot water for head showers. A gap of at least half hour should always be maintained between your meals and bathing.

Incorporating Dinacharya into your daily life offers a profound opportunity to cultivate wellness on a holistic level. Embrace these time-honored practices with sincerity and dedication, recognizing their transformative potential in fostering health, vitality, and harmony with nature.
